The Pomegranate is an ancient fruit that originated in Persia, present-day Iran. The inside of the Pomegranate consists of a soft, white mesoderm surrounding the small seeds. The seeds, also known as arils, are about the size of a corn kernel and contain bright red water. They are the only edible part of the fruit, with each Pomegranate having hundreds of seeds.

How to Sow and Care for Pomegranate 

It is best to start sowing seeds indoors, as the seedlings will be ready to go outdoors in early spring. You can either plant it in a pot or sow it directly outdoors. To plant seeds in a pot, fill a 4- to 6-inch pot with a mixture of two parts soil and one part coarse silica sand. Adding sand will improve drainage, which is essential for this plant, as soggy soil can lead to root rot. Press one seed about 1/4 inch deep into the soil per pot and cover.

If you have a biodegradable pot, you can use that; this is the best option as you won't need to disturb the roots when growing the plants into their permanent home. Water is just enough to moisten the soil. Keep the soil moist but only wet once the seedlings have sprouted. Seeds need warm temperatures of 75-85°F to germinate. Gradually increase the time and duration of direct sunlight exposure.
