How to Care And Sow Purple Kohlrabi Seeds

We have kohlrabi seeds available for growing purple varieties. The seeds should be sown in the spring or fall. It would be best if you did not start seeds until the soil temperature reached 7 degrees Celsius. Growing seeds requires fertile soil. When growing Kohlrabi from seeds, space them about two feet apart and about one centimetre deep. After seedlings emerge after a week, it is advisable to thin them to a distance of 10 to 15 cm. It is possible to eat the tender young leaves of these plants, just as you can with spinach or mustard greens.

Encourage rapid growth by maintaining an even moisture level in the soil. Lack of water will result in woody Kohlrabi. Prepare planting beds with aged compost. Side-dress Kohlrabi with aged compost once a month. Kohlrabi can also be fed once a month with a plant starter or balanced organic fertilizer. Carefully cultivate the roots to prevent damaging them. Once the plants reach 10-12 cm in height, mulch them with aged compost. Kohlrabi can be attacked by cutworms, cabbage loopers, and imported cabbage worms. You can protect seedling stems from cutworm damage by wrapping collars around them.
