How to sow and care for Jalapeno Seeds

Jalapeno seeds should be sown between late winter and mid-spring as an earlier start will ensure an extended harvest. Plant a few seeds in a small pot after filling it with seed compost and firming it lightly. Most of the seeds you will receive from us will germinate, so only sow a few more than you need in case of losses. Place a plant label on top of the vermiculite and water the bed. You can put the pots inside a heated propagator at 21°C or on a sunny windowsill. Germination will take place quickly. With an elastic band, secure a clear plastic bag over each pot to raise the humidity. Once seedlings begin to appear, remove the plastic bag or pot from the propagator. Provide bright light and water regularly.

Jalapeno seedlings should be transplanted into individual pots filled with multipurpose compost once they are 2.5 cm tall. Such plants are beneficial when their growing conditions are excellent. While the roots are still growing inside the pot, move the plants to larger 13cm pots once the roots emerge through the drainage holes. You should stick them with a thin cane when they reach about 20cm in height or if they start to lean. When plants reach about a foot tall, pinch out the shoot tips to encourage lots of branches, which will result in more fruit.
