An Overview of Grape
Grapes are berries of deciduous woody vines of the genus Vitis, which belong to the flowering plant family. Grapes can be consumed fresh as table grapes, used to make wine, jam, grape juice, jelly, grape seed extract, vinegar, and grape seed oil, or dried as raisins, currants and sultanas. It is a perennial woody vine.
What You'll Love
- Plant in full sun to provide the heat needed to ripen the fruit
- The vines need approximately 6 feet of space
- The fruit and flowers grow on new shoots called canes
- Grapes contain potassium, a mineral that helps maintain fluid balance in the body
Benefits of Grape
It is possible to reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke by consuming potassium. Many people are deficient in this nutrient, so grapes are a good source of it. Compounds in grapes may prevent high cholesterol levels by reducing cholesterol absorption. A study of 69 people with high cholesterol found that eating three cups of red grapes per day lowered total and LDL (harmful) cholesterol levels.
How to Care And Sow Grape Seeds
Ensure that all pulp and other matter is removed from the viable seeds by thoroughly washing them. Soak them for up to 24 hours in a small amount of distilled water at home. Germination of many seeds requires a period of cold, moist conditions. In nature, seeds are planted over the winter in soil that is cold and moist. You can mimic these conditions by stratifying seeds. After removing the seeds from the refrigerator, plant them in pots filled with good soil in early spring. You can either plant seeds in small pots or in larger pots that are at least one inch deep.
Transplant your seedlings into 10 cm pots after they have grown to about 8 cm. For the healthiest plants, grow seedlings in a greenhouse or inside until they are 25 cm tall, have a good root system and have five leaves. For grapevines to thrive, they need adequate sunlight, drainage, and support. They need a sunny environment. Each grapevine requires about 8 hours of daily sunlight. Make sure there is enough room. For growth, it is recommended that you space your plants about 2.5 m apart.
