Overview of F1 Spinach

An Asian plant native to central and western Asia called Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) has a lush green flower. The plant is in the order Caryophyllales, subfamily Chenopodioideae, family Amaranthaceae. Its leaves are commonly consumed both fresh and after storage using preservation techniques such as canning, freezing, or dehydration.

More to love in F1 Spinach:

  • Consume boiled or raw, and the taste varies substantially.
  • Steaming the Spinach reduces the high oxalate content.
  •  It can also stimulate appetite and build blood.
  • You can eat and make medicine from winter spinach leaves.
  • Your immune system is also protected by it to work against harmful toxins.

Benefits of Spinach

Spinach is used as a medicine to treat stomach and gastrointestinal (GI) complaints and fatigue. Spinach is useful for helping children grow and recover from illness. Spinach is a good source of vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin E and magnesium, that support your immune system. It keeps you healthy by fighting diseases caused by viruses and bacteria.

How to sow and care Spinach

Winter Spinach can be grown from seeds very easily. Drills should be spaced 30cm apart and 1.5cm deep with seeds sown very thinly. It typically takes 12-20 days for seeds to germinate. Thin seedlings to one every 7cm when they are large enough to handle, then again three weeks later, to one every 15cm during micro-leaf and baby leaf stages. Alternatively, you can start planting in early spring when the soil temperature exceeds 14 degrees celsius. Harvest fall crops with heavy seeding rows every 10-14 days in mid to late summer, 30 seeds per foot.

To prevent bolting:

  1. Ensure the plants are well hydrated, particularly during periods of drought.

  2. Pick leaves frequently to ensure new growth and continued leaf production.

  3. Plant in autumn and cover with mulch to ensure a spring harvest in fertile soil amended with compost or well-rotted manure.

You can either begin them inside or transplant them later, but transplanting is not recommended. Winter spinach requires little care, so you can start it outside and harvest it after one to two months.
