Overview of Chinese Cabbage
It is introducing this first-of-its-kind red F1 variety! Chinese cabbages are typically green, but this unique red F1 variety is red. With its deep red hearts that fade into a rose pink at the base, Chinese cabbage 'Scarvita' is visually stunning. Stir-fry it into salads and stir-fries to add a splash of colour to your dinner plate.
Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, collards, kale, and kohlrabi are all close relatives of the Brassica genus. These crops grow best in cool, moderate climates with consistent moisture and are relatively cold hardy.
If temperatures are high enough, spring cabbage crops will split, so plant them early enough to mature before summer heat sets in.

How to Care & Sow Chinese Cabbage
Cool-weather plants like Chinese cabbage bolts and seeds when the weather gets hot and long days. At temperatures between 7 and 24°C, seeds can be sown directly in the garden between spring and autumn. The recommended spacing for seeds is ten centimetres apart and half an inch deep. Successive seedlings should be thinned every 30 to 45 centimetres. Intervals of 45 to 76 centimetres should be used for row spacing. Moving plants into the shade once the weather warms up will protect them from heat damage.
Ensure that the soil is evenly moist so that plants grow quickly and remain tender. If the growth rate is too slow, the plants will seed. Keep the climate cool when temperatures rise. Chinese Cabbage should not be exposed to direct sunlight for more than eight hours a day. The Chinese cabbage plant is susceptible to flea beetles, aphids, and cabbage worms. Handpick or use a hose to get rid of aphids. Controlling cabbage worms is effective with Bacillus thuringiensis spraying.
