An Overview of Cantaloupe Melon
Cantaloupe is a juicy, orange summer fruit related to watermelon and honeydew melon. It also belongs to the same plant family as cucumbers, pumpkins, squash, and squash. The most familiar semi-sweet cantaloupe in the United States is a type of cucumber scientifically known as Cucumis melo reticulatus.
More to love in Cantaloupe Melon :
- Your eyesight can be improved by eating cantaloupe daily
- At least one seed should germinate per spot if you plant 2-3 seeds
- A good layer of organic mulch can help keep the soil warm and moist
Benefits of Cantaloupe Melon
The combination of vitamins C, zeaxanthin, and carotenoids available in cantaloupe improves vision. It reduces the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration (an eye disease that causes vision loss in the central field of sight).
How to Sow and Care Cantaloupe Melon
Plant seeds four weeks before the last frost date in large seedling pots, large soil blocks, or seedling trays with a large opening in the sterile seed starting mix. Seedlings will proliferate! Plant cantaloupe seeds need to be buried approximately 12 inches deep.
Keep the seedlings evenly watered and very warm. They will thrive, so use small shears to cut all but the most vigorous seedlings from each plot. After the last frost day, you can plant cantaloupe seedlings 36 inches apart in the garden. Like many other plants, they like about one inch of water per week.
